This is one way to get your parrots to forage feed – this is a type of environmental enrichment. I explain how i set up my playgym to enhance mental and physical stimulation. these are my baby budgies learning how to feed independantly. the playgym has has sand/grit on the bottom. i have added a branch, wood, bark, native australian seed pods like banksia and gum nuts, and i have put bird seed into the crevices and just scattered it around. forage feeding makes birds brains tick… its a natural thing they often miss out on in captivity.
Keiko, our new 3 month old baby Quaker Parrot is living the good life. Her homemade play gym had an upgrade to it. We used the plastic grid that comes with A/C filters. It is perfect to cut and use as ladders. Once again, we used Carefresh bedding for the bottom of his play yard – makes cleanup so much easier and lasts longer. The gym was constructed of PVC pipe which was bolted into the bottom of a plastic bin. Perfect for clean-ups and the mess stays inside the bin. He loves it. He stays there all day, as long as I am home and sleeps in his cage at night. What more could a Quaker baby ask for? All this, and lots of love and attention.
