From your experience, what are the best toys for a 3 month old?
My 3 month old seems bored with his toys so I need new ones for him. He has the Baby Einstein Play Gym where toys are suspended all around him and he bats at them. However he seems ready for something new and I want to ask you guys first what your children REALLY loved, both for having fun and for helping them developmentally.

The BEST thing we had (starting at the end of 3 months old to about 11 months old) was the Rainforest Jumperoo http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-K6070-Rainforest-Jumperoo/dp/B000I2UJ0Q/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1205693301&sr=8-1
Honeslty,
Something cheap and quiet. He’ll lose interest after 10 minutes anyway.
Baby’s no matter how old they are love rattles. They like anything that is bright, flashy, and loud to keep their attention. There are toys that do this and are cheap so that’s my advice.
My daughter is 14 weeks old and she loves anything that has lights! It is a toy that she can lay underneath and it plays music. On the sides of it, it has rattles and other things she can play with. The top hangs over her head, but can be changed so she can look at it during tummy time.
Other than that, anything that rattles, or brightly colored keeps are attention!
I have been a nanny for 13 years and have helped raise children from newborns to age 6. I’d rather make a toy for them that will be safe of course than to go out and buying all these toys that will only attract his attention for no more than 10 minutes try different items that you have at home such as things with different textures sizes, a box with random things in it different colors. If you do want to buy him something try going to toys r us and its a (can’t remember the name of it right now) very popular item its a circle well it looks like an octopus with ramdom things at the end of each tentacle…..
What you are doing is attempting to induce your infant to be an adult before he is ready for it.Why not allow your son the opportunity to discover for himself, that which is entertaining
and stimulating as a process, instead of foisting the instruments of distraction on your child? Why do parents have
to indulge in attempting to have their progeny walk before they
can talk, provide them with numerous distractions, and have them attend kindergarten,pre-school as soon as possible?
Because of the Brave New World type social conditioning,
that required the citizens of this utopia,to be productive members of society as early as possible.Mental development
should be a natural process, not hastened to satisfy the whims
of parents.
I actually think the Baby Einstein Play Mat or any other baby play mat on the market today are excellent toys for a 3 month old. They need lots of colors, noise makers and music, soft or smooth tactile objects such as things to reach for and touch and even mirrors. All of this is provided on a baby play mat or activity gym. When your baby gets a little older and really moving around then the exercise saucers are great! They can stand, sit, jump and work those leg muscles too.
